One thing the ActivityPub part of the Fediverse still completely fails to provide is some sane means of graceful continuity if one instance is down temporarily. Still, there’s no way of making contacts know messages sent there will not be read or received. Still, there’s no way of transparent redirecting to a fallback account for a period of time. And still, I’m thoroughly stunned how this could slip through while defining a protocol standard. ActivityPub in too many aspects seems so incredibly happy-path’ish that it hurts.
